Mercy Medical Center / University of Maryland First Year ResidencyFirst-year residents typically divide their year into thirteen four week blocks as follows*:

General Medicine Service 6 blocks
Critical Care 1 block
Elective 2½ blocks
Emergency Department 1 block
Night Float 2 blocks
*Length of each rotation is approximate.
