Mercy Medical Center / University of Maryland First Year ResidencyThe Department of Medicine provides a full conference schedule directed specifically to residents and students, which includes:

  • Morning Report
  • Medical Grand Rounds
  • Medical Journal Club
  • Morbidity and Mortality Conferences
  • Daily conferences in specialties including cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, infectious diseases, nephrology, neurology, oncology, psychiatry, pulmonary diseases, radiology, rheumatology, office gynecology, medical ethics, and selected surgical subspecialties

The curriculum for these conferences is developed by the chief resident, program director and the department chairman. Conferences are planned to provide a full core curriculum in internal medicine over the course of the year. Conferences are provided by clinical division heads at Mercy as well as selected faculty from the nearby University of Maryland. Speakers at Medical Grand Rounds are experts in their fields brought in from University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins, and other academic centers from across the country.

Conferences are conveniently scheduled at mealtimes, and some are catered by outside providers.
